Social Workers' Book Club
Wednesday, July 10, 2024, 7:30-9 PM Eastern Time on Zoom
CSWA is hosting its second Social Worker's Book Club on July 10th from 7:30PM - 9PM Eastern Time (or for as long as you are able to attend). Please see a message about CSWA Book Clubs from CSWA Board Member, Austin Matthews, LCSW.
The Social Workers' Book Club was created with the intention to provide a space that builds social connections between CSWA members and creates a forum for continuing personal development.
In each Book Club, the group will read one book that touches on social work topics: social issues, policy history, theory, or any book that captures the complex and often contradictory beauty of the human experience. A clinical social worker will facilitate an informal conversation about each book and moderate any discussions. Your facilitator(s) may provide reflection questions for each book that help center critical themes, but you are encouraged to completely ignore that and read this book however you want and feel - whatever is natural! (Heck yeah!)
July's book selection is Scythe by Neal Shusterman. Please see below for an introduction of the book from this event's facilitator, Marisa Davis, CSWA's previous MSW Intern.
Sycthe is an award-winning novel (with at least 34 different awards and honors) set in a future society where healthcare is so advanced no one ever "just dies." It explores the moral complexities of death, power, AI, and other ethical issues. It is a fascinating and entertaining story, and I am excited to analyze it from the lens of a social worker with you all!
Participants are each responsible for obtaining their own copy of the book to read prior to the Book Club.
This program is not eligible for CEs.
If you do not receive a confirmation email upon registering, please reach out for assistance by emailing administrator@clinicalsocialworkassociation.org.
