This 1 credit course was developed for clinical social work professionals. The course will familiarize professionals with strategies to be compliant with state and Federal laws, cite ethical considerations and identify ways to maintain adequate documentation.

About the instructor:
Ms. Laura Groshong is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Seattle and has been in clinical private practice for the past 43 years. She was a Registered Lobbyist in Washington State for 25 years. She is the Director of Policy and Practice for the Clinical Social Work Association. She has written and lectured extensively on clinical and regulatory issues around the country.


Learning Objectives


After participating in this Live, Interactive Webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the difference between the Medical Record and Psychotherapy Notes
  • Describe how to protect information that is in the Medical Record
  • Cite ethical considerations for record keeping
  • Determine the length of time to retain the Medical Record
  • Assess what information belongs in the Medical Record

This live webinar is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions.

CE Credit:

To earn 1 CE credit, participants must log in at the scheduled time, and attend the entire course.


Post test and Evaluation:
At the end of this workshop, participants must successfully complete the post-test and complete an online course evaluation (these links will be sent out after the webinar). Once the post-test is successfully completed, the participant will be directed to an evaluation. After the post-test is submitted, a link will be provided for the participant to print/download the certificate.

Clinical Social Work Association, provider #1719, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Clinical Social Work Association maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 08/27/19 – 08/27/20.
