Developing Spiritual Conversations

Friday, May 17, 2024 | 11:00 am to 2:00 pm Eastern Time

Presenter: Tere Canzoneri, LCSW

Target Audience: Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Clinical Social Work Graduate Students, and additional Mental Health Professionals

Content level: Beginner to Intermediate

CE credits: 3 (Clinical)

About the webinar:

In recent years, there has been an outpouring of research and instruction in spiritually integrated psychotherapy, and empirical evidence demonstrating the therapeutic efficacy of attending to clients’ spiritual beliefs and practices. This workshop addresses ways clinicians can access their clients’ religious and spiritual history and use it as a resource in psychotherapy. This course is based on material from ACPE’s Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (SIP) Training Program, a 30-hour curriculum.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this webinar participants will be able to:

  1. Approach spiritual conversations in therapy in a collaborative rather than directive manner.
  2. Discuss the difference between explicit and implicit spiritual language.
  3. Recognize and respond to spiritual openings that clients offer.
  4. Initiate spiritual conversations.

    About the instructor:

Tere Tyner Canzoneri is the child of clergy educators whose life was shaped by spiritual awareness, religious practice, curiosity, and a commitment to intellectual rigor. She left Asia where she grew up to attend Mercer University in Macon Georgia and later attended Candler School of Theology at Emory for her MDiv and the University of Georgia where she received an M.S.W. She completed her residency in Pastoral Counseling at Georgia Baptist Medical Center. She has been a pastoral psychotherapist in the Atlanta area for over 40 years. During that time she was Director of Pastoral Counseling Training at Georgia Baptist Medical Center and later on the training faculty of the Georgia Association for Pastoral Care. In 2003 she joined the staff of the Emmanuel Center for Pastoral Counseling of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, in Atlanta, GA, where she provides counseling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families; clergy consultation; spiritual direction; and clinical supervision. She has also managed a wellness program for an international religious organization. She was ordained in 1988 at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, GA.
