Depression assessment has been proposed by the US Preventive Services Task Force as necessary given its clinical morbidity.  With the focus on PQRS in treating a geriatric population, this expanded view to all over the age of 15 speaks to depression as a leading cause of disability.  With proper diagnosis and treatment,  lives can be saved.
